In high-temperature industrial equipment, the selection of refractory materials is closely related to energy efficiency, temperature control and service life. Among various insulating refractory products, JM26 insulating fire bricks are widely used where lightweight construction and thermal insulation are important requirements.
JM26 is a grade within the insulating fire brick family. It is designed to provide a balance between high-temperature resistance, low thermal conductivity and sufficient mechanical strength.
According to published product data for JM insulating firebrick series, JM26 is classified at approximately 1430°C (2600°F), with a typical bulk density of around 800 kg/m³.
The porous structure of insulating fire bricks helps reduce heat transfer through the refractory lining. This makes JM26 suitable for applications where reducing heat loss and maintaining a stable working temperature are important.
Bulk density is one of the key properties used to evaluate insulating refractory bricks.
For JM26 products, typical bulk density values may be around 0.78–0.85 g/cm³, depending on the manufacturer, grade and production specification.
A lower bulk density generally means that the brick contains a higher proportion of pores. These pores can reduce the amount of solid material through which heat is transferred, contributing to improved thermal insulation.
However, lower density does not automatically mean better performance in every application.
When the density becomes too low, mechanical strength may also decrease. Therefore, the selection of an insulating brick should consider density together with compressive strength, thermal conductivity, temperature rating and the actual operating environment.
The relationship between density and thermal insulation is an important consideration when designing a kiln or furnace lining.
JM26 insulating bricks are manufactured with a controlled porous structure. This structure allows the brick to provide thermal insulation while maintaining the mechanical properties required for many industrial applications.
Published JM26 data from different manufacturers show that thermal conductivity and density can vary according to formulation and production process. For example, some JM26 specifications report thermal conductivity around 0.21–0.30 W/(m·K) under specified test conditions.
For this reason, customers should evaluate the complete technical data sheet rather than selecting a refractory brick based only on its density.
Typical JM26 specifications may include:
| Property | Typical Reference |
|---|---|
| Classification Temperature | 1430°C / 2600°F |
| Bulk Density | Approx. 780–850 kg/m³ |
| Cold Crushing Strength | Around 1.5–2.5 MPa, depending on grade |
| Thermal Conductivity | Approx. 0.21–0.30 W/(m·K), depending on test temperature |
| Material Type | Insulating Refractory Brick / Mullite-based Insulating Brick |
These figures are provided as typical industry reference values. Actual values may vary according to raw materials, manufacturing technology, product grade and testing standards. Product-specific values should always be confirmed through the manufacturer's technical data sheet and inspection report.
JM26 insulating fire bricks can be used in a variety of high-temperature thermal equipment, particularly where thermal insulation is required.
Typical applications include:
Industrial furnaces
Heat-treatment furnaces
Ceramic kilns
Shuttle kilns
Tunnel kilns
Glass-related thermal equipment
Petrochemical heating equipment
Insulating layers of high-temperature kiln linings
The appropriate grade should be selected according to operating temperature, atmosphere, mechanical load, installation position and other service conditions.
When selecting JM26 insulating fire bricks, density should not be considered independently.
A suitable refractory solution should balance:
Bulk Density + Thermal Conductivity + Mechanical Strength + Temperature Resistance + Dimensional Stability
For example, a lower-density brick may provide excellent insulation, while a higher-density grade may offer greater mechanical strength. The right choice depends on whether the brick is used as a hot-face lining, backup insulation layer or another part of the furnace structure.
